Cannon River STEM School is a tuition free public K-8 charter school in Faribault, Minnesota.

Our Vision is to become an innovative leader in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in Minnesota while creating a community of students who love to learn.

Our Mission is to foster each student’s innate curiosity and joy of discovery. We prepare students to become excellent questioners, scientific thinkers, and responsible citizens, who are able to contribute to the world with confidence and character. We achieve this through student-centered, collaborative and experiential learning, with an emphasis on the environment as an integrating context.

The Cannon River STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) School will provide a unique and rewarding public education experience for students, parents and teachers. Our vision of becoming the preeminent leader in STEM education in Minnesota and our mission of fostering each student’s innate curiosity and joy of discovery, address the growing need for improved science and math education, locally, in Minnesota and nationally. Through an interdisciplinary STEM curriculum, our purpose for the charter school will be to improve student learning, increase learning opportunities for students and encourage the use of different and innovative teaching methods.

The educational philosophy of the Cannon River STEM School is that of a learning laboratory incorporating inquiry-based, place-based, and project-based learning experiences with a strong emphasis on the processes of science. Located near the confluence of the Straight and Cannon Rivers, the Cannon River STEM School will employ new and innovative ideas for the development, delivery and management of curriculum in order to successfully educate and prepare our children for the challenges of the 21st century. Our education program utilizes the environment as an integrating context and other innovative curriculum models.
